Pin Design & Fabrication Questions
What is the minimum pin order quantity?
The minimum order is 50 lapel pins.
What metal plating options do you offer for your lapel pins?
We offer gold, silver, and copper platings standard with our orders. We also offer black metal upon request. Note, black metal only works well with extremely light colored or mostly white pins. It will not show up on darker pins.
What are your lapel pins made from?
Our lapel pins are made from copper, brass, bronze, zinc alloy or iron.
Are you able to manufacture lapel pins in different shapes?
We can manufacture your lapel pins in almost any shape. They do not have to be circular, as traditional lapel pins are.
For example they can be in the shape of a state, a team mascot, a vehicle, an animal, a flower or just about anything else that you can think of. The possibilities are endless!
What is the minimum order for a pin reorder?
The minimum for a pin reorder is 50 pins. Please note that a reorder can not include any change that would cause a new die to be created. Changing the text (such as the date) does not qualify as a reorder. Colors can be changed however on a reorder because the existing die can be reused.
What is the maximum amount of colors I can have on a pin?
You can have as many colors as you like on a pin. There is no charge for the first 6 colors on a pin. There is a charge of $0.03 per color for 7 or more colors. The metal color (typically gold or silver) does not count as one of your 6 colors.
What is the most popular size for a lapel pin?
Most pin sizes are typically between 3/4″ to 1 1/4″. However, it all depends on the reason for the pin, who will wear it and the design or the shape of the lapel pin. In most cases though, people do not like to wear a lapel pin larger than 1 1/2″.
What options for attachments do you offer for lapel pins?
A standard pin backing is an 8 mm post with a single butterfly metal clasp (also known as military clutch) or a rubber clutch backing at no charge. If not specified the metal butterfly clasp will be used.
Other backing options include magnetic back, screw backing, safety pin, jewelry clutch, stick pin or tie tack. These backings are an additional fee.
In addition, you can turn almost any pin into a tie clasp, cufflinks, earrings, or keychain for an additional fee.
How are your pins packaged?
All pins are individually poly bagged for protection. We also offer several pin packaging options such as plastic jewel boxes, velvet boxes, and velvet pouches.
Patch Design & Fabrication Questions
What size should my lettering be on a patch?
We recommend that the height of your lettering be a minimum of 1/4”. At this height your text will still be legible. Anything smaller than this height will be more difficult to read. If you are unsure what size your lettering should be, please contact us to assist you.
Will my embroidered patch look just like the image I sent you?
Embroidery is not the same as printing where a design can be copied 100%. Embroidery is a completely different medium, and therefore there will be some slight variations to the design.
However, this is why we send you a sample graphic design via email before we begin the final production. Only after you confirm the design will we process the order for production.
A common issue with embroidery is that text sizes less than 1/4″ are difficult to read. Therefore, if you have proposed a design that has small text we will suggest either the text be made larger or another suitable option.
What type of patch backings do you offer?
Patches come standard with no backing. In addition, we offer four other backing types. A plastic backing, “iron on” or heat transfer backing, Velcro backing, and an adhesive backing.
The plastic backing is added to make the patch more sturdy.
The “iron on” or heat transfer backing allows our customers to adhere our patches onto textiles by using an iron.
Velcro backings are used to temporarily adhere the patch onto a garment or bag.
The adhesive backing allows the patch to stick onto apparel or other surfaces.
What’s the most common backing that is being used on patches?
Most of our customers prefer a standard backing. This means that it has nothing extra added to it. This type of patch has to be sewn on the garment or item. There is no additional charge for the standard backing.
Some people prefer the iron-on backing because it is very convenient to embellish on any garment. An iron-on backing also gives a sturdy appearance to the patch. Iron-on is not permanent and we recommend that you still sew on your patches. Iron-on backings do have an additional fee.
How do I iron on my patches?
Iron on patches are also referred to as heat seal patches.
Follow the steps below to iron or your patch. Please note-only patches that are made with a heat seal on them can be ironed on to another item.
Items You Will Need:
Iron
Ironing Board
Your custom iron-on patch
Clean Washcloth
Step 1: Make sure that the material that you are applying the patch to is washed, cleaned and dry. Make sure the material is wrinkle-free because the patch may not adhere properly or might gather the material when the patch is applied.
Step 2: Make sure your iron is set to the correct settings to match the type of material. For example, if your material is cotton make sure the iron is set to cotton because you don’t want to burn or damage the material.
Step 3: Iron the area where you want your embroidered patch to be for about 10 seconds.
Step 4: Place the custom patch on the heated area and then cover the insignia with a washcloth. Move the iron over the washcloth in a slow circular motion for about 90 seconds.
Step 5: Lift the washcloth to make sure that the patch is being applied correctly. If the patch is applying correctly you can proceed to Step 6. If the patch is not adhering to the material you will need to start over again with a new patch.
Step 6: Turn the clothing inside out and iron the emblem again for about 30 seconds. Make sure to move the iron in a slow circular motion.
Step 7: Remove washcloth and let the material cool. Give your material and your new patch the “movement test” and make sure your patch can withstand regular movements.
What is the minimum order for patches?
The minimum order for all patches is 50.
